AI Strategy & Governance
Architecting Intelligence. Governing with Precision
From AI readiness assessments to ethics frameworks and Fractional CAIO leadership , DOT embeds rigorous AI governance at the heart of your enterprise strategy.
Overview
As artificial intelligence transitions from an emerging capability to a business-critical function, the absence of a coherent AI strategy represents a significant organisational risk. DOT's AI Strategy & Governance practice provides enterprises with the frameworks, leadership, and assurance mechanisms required to deploy AI with confidence, compliance, and measurable commercial impact.
Operating Without an AI Governance Framework
Organisations across every sector are accelerating AI adoption , yet the majority lack the structural foundations to manage it responsibly. The consequences are significant:
- AI deployments proceed without documented ethics policies, exposing organisations to regulatory and reputational risk
- The rapid proliferation of generative AI and large language model (LLM) tools has outpaced internal governance capabilities
- Without a defined AI ownership structure, accountability gaps emerge , particularly when AI-driven decisions produce adverse outcomes
- Emerging legislation, including the EU AI Act and national AI frameworks, introduces binding obligations that many organisations are not yet positioned to meet
- A lack of AI maturity benchmarking makes it impossible to prioritise investment or demonstrate progress to the board

AI Strategy & Governance , FAQ
A Fractional CAIO is an embedded leadership role, not an advisory arrangement. DOT’s Fractional CAIO attends board and executive committee meetings, owns the AI strategy, manages vendor relationships, oversees the ethics and compliance programme, and is accountable for AI performance outcomes , functioning as a genuine member of your leadership team on a part-time basis.
The EU AI Act applies to any organisation that deploys AI systems affecting EU residents, regardless of where the organisation is incorporated. Companies providing products or services to European customers, or organisations whose AI systems process data belonging to EU citizens, are subject to its provisions. DOT’s compliance programme delivers full readiness within a structured eight-week engagement.
The assessment covers six areas: the technology stack and AI tools in current use (including shadow AI), data architecture and liquidity, regulatory exposure, workforce capability, existing governance structures, and strategic alignment. The output is a formal report containing your DOT AI Maturity Index score, a risk register, and a prioritised action roadmap with projected ROI for each initiative.
Particularly so. Organisations deploying third-party AI solutions remain responsible for the outcomes those systems produce within their environment. A governance framework defines acceptable use, documents accountability, establishes monitoring protocols, and ensures regulatory compliance , irrespective of whether the AI system is developed in-house or procured from a vendor.
Fractional CAIO engagements are structured as monthly retainers, scaled to reflect the organisation’s size, the number of AI systems in scope, and the frequency of board-level reporting required. Fixed-fee options are available for defined deliverables such as the AI Readiness Assessment and Ethics Framework. Detailed commercial proposals are provided following an initial scoping consultation.
Yes. DOT’s approach is to integrate the AI Governance Charter within your established risk, compliance, and enterprise architecture frameworks , not to create a parallel structure. We align with ISO 31000, COSO, or your proprietary internal framework as appropriate, ensuring consistency and operational adoption across the organisation.
